          Session Descriptions

Future Client Platforms for Higher Education
How do you support them all? Should you?

Come hear about new technologies that will profoundly change how our students interact with computing in the classroom. How will netbooks, Ultra-Thin mobile platforms and revolutionary client announcements from Microsoft, Intel and AMD change the education computing platforms of the future? From thin clients to netbooks to desktop virtualization and even "traditional" OS platforms such as Microsoft Windows 7 and Linux, the face of the PC as we know it is constantly evolving. The lower cost of these new computing platforms will drive the use of personal and institution provided technology in the classrom faster than we have seen in the past decade. We will also explore how to properly built out the infrastructure necessary to support teaching and learning in a classroom/lab setting using these new technologies.

          Virtualization
          Not just for servers anymore

Whether it takes place in the cloud, on your servers, in your storage or on your desktop, virtualization is dynamically changing the face of IT almost every day. With new concerns around the OPEX costs of power, cooling and ongoing management costs to the security concerns around data stored in a distributed nature around the edge of your network--centralizing control and access of the client devices to the datacenter or cloud can make a lot of sense. Come learn about the latest in virtualization technologies from industry heavyweights such as VMware, Microsoft, etc., discover if it is the right fit within your organization, and how it can help optimize your education infrastructure of the future.

          Data Center 3.0
          Is your data center ready?

A new data center architecture is emerging...l one based on a shared, virtualized infrastructure model. while all IT organizations are faced with pressing data center challenges that can include application and data growth, facilities limiitatiosn, or underutilzied resources, it is important to take a big picture approach to addressing today's data center infrastructure. For this reason, many IT organizations have developed a longer term strategy that incorporates the following steps:

          • Develop the desired end-goal data center infrastructure model aligned with business objectives
          • Identify the primary near-term data center projects and develop a plan to implement them in the context of longer term architecture
          • Hear a case study on how an organization tamped a sprawling data center and ended up with increased efficiency and reduced costs.

Come learn how Cisco and GovConnection can help you achieve your data center goals.
